Disability & Mental Health Summit 2024—Looking for Speakers!

3 minute read

The 11th annual Disability & Mental Health Summit will be a 2-day event on Thursday, April 18, 2024 and Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Beth El Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. This Request for Proposal (RFP) process serves to identify presenters for 11th Annual Disability & Mental Health Summit.

The Disability & Mental Health Summit, hosted by Representative Dan Miller, is a special event providing educational sessions, continuing education credits, and the largest collection of disability and mental health resources in Western Pennsylvania. Our goal in providing this information and these resources is to increase independence and opportunity for people with disabilities and mental health concerns.

The 2024 Planning Committee, which includes Tessa Watkins, the human behind Just 1 voice, is seeking proposals for Summit sessions that focus on disability and mental health concerns across the lifespan, with the goal of including programming relating to a range of disability types. Proposals may relate to topics such as inclusion, early intervention, school-age issues and supports, transition to adulthood, inclusive employment, family and/or community supports and services, behavioral challenges and supports, advocacy, and other related topics. Our audience is varied, consisting of self-advocates, parents, family members, caregivers, advocates, service providers, educators, medical professionals, government officials, lawyers, inclusive employers, and mental health professionals. Sessions are 60 minutes in length and should include 10-15 minutes for Q&A.

Proposal submission deadline is November 12, 2023.

  • Proposal submissions will only be accepted via email to Louise Larkin (Tessa, being the awesome web developer that they are, created the form below that emails this data to Louise Larkin and cc’s yourself).
  • One individual may submit multiple proposals for consideration. Each topic must be submitted separately and include all required fields.
  • If there are multiple speakers for one session, the lead speaker should complete the proposal and list additional speakers and provide their information in the fields provided.
  • Incomplete, late, or incorrectly submitted proposals will not be considered.
  • Speakers will not be paid an honorarium or reimbursed for travel expenses.

Review Process

Session proposals are reviewed based upon the following criteria:

  1. quality of program proposal;
  2. content of program goals and outcomes;
  3. timeliness of topic, and;
  4. appropriateness of presentation to event audience.

We encourage partners to collaborate on joint proposals. Available space and the balance of topics across the event will also be considered in making final session determinations. Any proposals submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. All speakers will be notified of their proposal status. If your proposal is selected, we request that you accept the invitation within three (3) business days of notification, so that the session schedule can be created and posted.
