On July 21, 2021, Tessa Watkins (me, they/she) was featured in Integrity Speech Therapy‘s monthly program called Autism Support Group. Led by Lauren Conley (she/her), Speech-Language Pathologist, this month they wanted to understand more about what it is like being autistic, so they invited me to discuss my perspective and experiences.
- 06:51 – The Spoon Theory was created by Christine Miserandino as an analogy of what it is like to live with an invisible sickness and/or disability.
- 09:00 – The Ticket Theory was created by Hilary Knutson because she recognized that sometimes she’d have “spoons” but only for specific things, and not always for the things she wanted to do.
- 55:45 – The “I Love You Because You’re You” book by Liza Baker (see TikTok I made about this too)

If you are questioning whether you or a loved one may be autistic, check out the diagnostic criteria from the DSM-5.
