I’ve had over a dozen people email me regarding my open letters so here are some answers to their most common questions:
If you attended anytime on/between January 1, 2004, and October 16, 2017, then you might be eligible for your student loans to get cancelled.
To figure out your dates of attendance, order your official transcript. As of writing this, they are currently $15 plus processing and delivery fees and you should get an electronic PDF in 3-5 business days. Your transcript will contain all dates you attended, confirming if you attended anytime between 1/1/04 and 10/16/17.
No! You do not have to have graduated from the Art Institute to be eligible.
If you haven’t received the email but you know you’re eligible, then you can apply for Borrower Defense.
No, and that’s why I’m pissed off too. We were scammed just like the others and yet we’re unjustly punished for doing what we were told to do. Do something about it.
Maybe!
If you have open loans with Navient, they are running their own forgiveness program that includes privately held loans, so definitely check with them.
If you still can’t get forgiveness through them and pissed off about it, do something about it.
Check out this article for my plan on what we can do and how we’re going to do it. There’s also info at the bottom on how to contact me should you want to.
If you’re still an American citizen, you can vote in our elections for candidates that are likely to pass student loan forgiveness legislation. Please contact your nearest US Embassy for more information on how to do that.
If we start a petition, you can sign it!
